Seeing all the girls around you with luscious, voluminous hair can look like an unrealistic dream especially if you have thin hair. Oh and when they do that dramatic yet effortless hair flip! That’s just chef’s kiss.
It’s easy to get jealous of such beautiful hair and just think that maybe they are blessed with great genes. Genes do play a big role but you know what, with some simple tips and tricks you can also achieve the hair of your dreams.
These are a few of the best hair hacks and hair tips that you can use to get gorgeous-looking hair anytime you want.
Hair Tips you Need to know
1. Do this before washing your hair
Did you know that washing your hair with harsh chemical shampoos frequently can strip your hair from its natural oils? Over the passage of time, it can make your hair very dry and brittle.
When this happens, it becomes hard to style your hair as it looks very lifeless and falls too much. To avoid this, put some drops of oil in your hair before washing as a pre-shampoo treatment. This will ensure that you still have some moisture left in your hair after shampooing it. It also helps to remove extra buildup oils and grease from the head.
After some time, you’ll start to notice your hair becoming healthy and less dry.
2. Grow your hair this way
We all know the struggle of trying to grow our hair for months just for it to stay the same length. This can be really frustrating and disappointing to deal with if you are trying every over the counter product and treatment.
An easy way to stimulate hair growth is by using this method called ” the inversion method “. Many people swear by it and I can just say that it has for sure worked for me.
All you have to do is take some oil (preferably olive oil) and heat it a little (just make sure that it is not too hot) and apply it on your entire scalp. Message it for around 5 minutes in a gentle motion so you don’t end up damaging your hair.
Then flip your head upside down and massage it so the oil spreads equally over the scalp. Just make sure to not stay in that position for too long. This helps to promote blood circulation in the head area, reduce scalp dryness, and allows nutrients to say in the hair. Plus messaging oil will promote hair growth which is a win-win.
After an hour or so, wash your hair with a mild shampoo like usual. You should be doing this at least once a week if you want to notice effective results.
3. Get an even hairline
Having a big forehead or uneven hairline means that you just cannot wear some hairstyles due to obvious reasons. As someone with this exact problem, I cannot tell you how much I’d love to wear tight ponytails but it just draws attention to my uneven hairline. This would end up making me uncomfortable and I would just opt out for hairstyles that would cover it.
Except there is a solution to this problem too! You can use some eyeshadow or hair powder that is the closest match to your natural hair color to cover up the uneven hairline. This way you can not only rock high ponytails but also feel more confident in putting your hair up.
4. Split ends hack
How many of us hate having split ends and having our hair look like a complete mess? When the hair cuticles are damaged. it leads down the road of hair breakage and split ends. It usually affects medium to long length hair and can make your hair look very dull and lifeless.
Not everyone can afford proper tools or a salon visit to regularly trim split ends. So a fairly easy trick to trim your split ends at home is by twisting strands of your hair one by one. The ends will stick out and you will be able to cut them with a scissor easily.
5. Remove that grease
Having an oily scalp or just never feeling satisfied even after shampooing your hair multiple times can be really annoying as no matter how well you wash your hair, some residue is still left on your hair.
This makes it hard to get that silky hair feeling even after a fresh wash. Thick hair can cause this problem too as it is hard to get to your scalp and this can lead to dandruff.
Using a silicone shampoo brush can get rid of this problem and help to thoroughly cleanse your scalp and remove all the buildup of dirt and oils. It looks hard but is actually very gentle. Totally a life-changer!
6. Throw that towel
How do you dry your hair? Do NOT use a regular towel to dry your hair as it causes friction and breaks your hair. Toss it out and alternatively go for a cotton shirt. It is way more gentle on your hair and will keep it smooth.
7. DIY dry shampoo
For days where you ran out of your dry shampoo or simply don’t have one, head over to your kitchen and grab some cornstarch. It works absolutely fine to take away that grease and oiliness from your hair. Sprinkle some in greasy areas of your scalp and let it sit there overnight. By the time you wake up in the morning, your hair will be good to go.
8. Say NO to these ingredients
Hair products can get really pricey and if they don’t provide the value they promised, it can be very disappointing. Most of the time, the real culprit is the bad ingredients.
Whenever you’re considering to buy hair products, just ensure that they do not contain parabens, sulfates, and silicone. These ingredients are really bad for your hair and will do more harm than good.
9. Try this out
You could be wondering that no matter how much you take care of your hair, put on those masks, and oil your hair, your hair still looks dry, flaky, and dead. The reason could be your shower water.
Yes, shower water! Despite looking fine, it still contains many harmful contaminants including heavy metals, fluoride, chlorine, and other chemicals and impurities that can make your scalp itchy, flaky, and lead to hair thinning.
Installing a shower filter might ease out these problems as it filters out all these impurities and make water less harsh which would lead to your hair becoming softer.
10. Change your routine
Washing your hair every day can make your hair very dry. As a result, the body produces more oils to keep the hair nourished and so your hair gets greasy faster and you feel the urge to wash it more often.
Although there’s no one-size-fits-all thing about washing your hair, you can still try to elongate the time between your hair washing to your hair has enough time to produce natural oils to hydrate hair.
If you don’t like the greasy feel, try different hairstyles like braids, ponytails, blowout, or even a scarf.
11. Get that volume
Adding volume to thin hair can be hard if you’re not a pro at it. However, there’s an easy method to do it. After showering, when your hair is still wet. flip it up and down a few times. Then clip the central part of your hair. So when you take it out, it will be volumized.
12. Use this instead
Constantly tying your hair with hair ties with metal in them pulls your hair tightly which ruins hairline overtime, and breaks your hair.
The key is to use hair ties that are more gentle and won’t break your hair. Silk scrunchies and hair coils will be your best friend and won’t hurt your head.
13. Less is More
When it comes to hair, it can be really easy to pick every product that looks slightly appealing and smells good. But the bitter truth is that you don’t need a ton of products to have good hair.
Sometimes using tons of products can do more damage than you think. It is better to keep your hair regimen simple and choose more natural products. Oh also, don’t use all those heat products. They will severely damage your hair.
14. Use conditioner like this
You could be using your conditioner the wrong way based on your hair condition. If your scalp gets dry after showering, then condition your hair before shampooing and after rinsing as well. This is because shampoo gets rid of all the oil and dries your hair out. This will make sure that your hair has enough moisture. And let it sit for at least 3-5 minutes.
On the other hand, if your scalp gets oily really fast after showering, then do not apply conditioner on your roots. Only condition the ends to keep them hydrated.
15. Silk pillowcase
You might have heard me talk about this before but that is because this is an absolute game-changer. Switch from your regular cotton pillowcase to a silk one and you’ll visibly notice a difference in your skin and hair.
Cotton pillowcase is way rougher on your hair and causes hair breakage. While a silk pillowcase keeps your hair soft and smooth and prevents hair breakage completely.
16. DIY Hair growth serum
Last but not the least, having to wait for your hair to grow after a bad haircut or some hair loss can be really time-consuming especially if you’re anywhere as impatient as me.
To speed up the process, you can make your at-home hair growth serum that is really cheap too. This is one of my favorite hair tips. All you need is castor oil and some rosemary oil. In a dropper bottle, add 2 tbsp of castor oil along with 15 drops of rosemary oil.
Put it on the area of the scalp where you want to grow more hair and leave it on for around 3 days. After this, wash your hair like usual. To make it more effective, you can also use the inversion method which was explained above.
