Causes of Hairfall
Although hair fall is a common concern for many people, everyone has different conditions that can trigger hair loss.
There are various factors that can contribute to hair fall. Most common ones include:
1) Malnutrition or lack of proper diet
An unhealthy and imbalanced diet like fast food which is high in starch and fats and eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia nervosa, etc can create a lack of nutrients in the body which are necessary for hair growth.
When the body is deficient of the essential nutrients, vitamins etc which are required for growth, it can cause hair loss.
2) genetic hair issues
In many cases, there is a family history of hair loss or baldness. This can affect people at some point in their life by combining with other factors like hormonal imbalance, medication, etc.
Asking your family about such issues and taking necessary precautions like medical help can help to avoid hair loss.
3) Hair pROCESSES
Everyone wants their hair to look perfect and styled all the time. But excessively using styling and heat products like straighteners, blow dryers, and curling rods all the time damages hair and contribute to hair fall.
Moreover, chemical processes like frequently bleaching and dying hair can make them brittle and lifeless, thus leading to hair loss.
4) Medication / Hormonal Imbalance
A lot of the time, women suffer from hormonal imbalance by taking medications that alter hormones like birth control or to treat acne, etc.
A few of these medications can result in hair loss. If that happens, consult your doctor to change your medication.
Undiagnosed health issues like underactive thyroid, skin disorders, trichotillomania (compulsive hair-pulling). scalp infections, unregulated diabetes etc can also result in hair loss.
5) sTRESS AND ANXIETY
Many women suffer from stress and anxiety and general work pressure due to multiple reasons which can also cause hair loss.
While anxiety is a life-long struggle, stress-induced anxiety can be significantly improved by acts of self-care.
How to take care of your hair to prevent hair loss and promote hair growth
Now moving forward to actually preventing hair loss, there are many simple things that one can change in their daily routine to avoid frequent hair loss.
1. Healthy balanced diet
Having a healthy, balanced diet is the key to maintaining healthy hair and reducing hair fall. Include proteins, biotin, zinc, iron, B12, green leafy vegetables, etc in your diet to promote hair growth.
2. Drinking lots of water
Drinking at least 2 liters of water per day helps to strengthen hair by hydrating the scalp which in turn reduces dandruff and keeps hair roots healthy.
You can add fruits to it to improve it’s taste like lemon or use a fancy bottle to encourage you to drink more water.
3. Scalp massage
Massaging the scalp 1-3 times a day in small, circular movements increases the thickness of hair as it stimulates the follicles.
Use castor oil to enhance the results.
4. Minimalize heat products
Lessen the use of heat styling products on hair or use it on lower temperatures and use a heat protectant prior.
Also, don’t use a hairdryer on the same spot for too long. Aim at the hair strands rather than roots.
5. Avoid tight hairstyles
Switch your hair part more often and don’t put hair in tight ponytails, buns, etc, or use tight elastics or bobby pins. All that pulling damages hair over time!

6. Brush hair the right way
Don’t overbrush your hair as it causes friction which leads to hair breakage.
Use a wide teeth comb and brush the hair from the bottom to top gently not vice versa! Oh and also brush hair before showering to detangle it.
7. X No hot showers X
Hot water dehydrates the hair and makes it brittle. Use medium water and rinse hair with cold water to add extra shine to it.
If your shower water contains chlorine or any other harmful substances, install a shower filter to clean/filter water as chlorine and other substances in tap water can damage hair over time.
8. Use the right towel
Use a microfiber towel instead of a regular one or a cotton shirt as regular ones cause friction.
Pat and be gentle. Do not squeeze or twist the hair as it will cause breakage.
9. Relax your mind
Keeping yourself stress-free by indulging in simple acts of self-care like meditating, exercising, etc can reduce hair loss.
10. Satin Pillowcase
Using a regular cotton pillowcase causes friction between hair and leads to breakage.
It is recommended to use a gentle satin or silk pillowcase. Don’t sleep with your hair tied up or wet/damp either.
Natural Remedies for hair growth
If you have a tight budget or nothing seems to be working for you, head over to your kitchen for these natural remedies.
You might find the most effective ingredients to combat hair loss inside your cabinets…

Avocado is rich in biotin (the vitamin which is responsible for hair health). Take a fresh, ripe avocado and scoop out the flesh.
Mix it with 1 tbsp olive oil and lemon. Apply the mixture on dry scalp and let it sit for 20 minutes. Rinse with a shampoo after 20 minutes.
2. Green tea Rinse
Green tea can help in reducing dihydrotestosterone (DTH), which is one of the major reasons for hair loss.

Beat a few eggs until the egg white and yolk is blended properly. Gently massage it on your hair and scalp and leave for 20 minutes. Then rinse it off with water.
4. Yogurt Mask
Take 1 cup yogurt, 1tbsp apple cider vinegar, and 1 tbsp honey. Mix the ingredients and apply from roots to the tip of your hair.
